The Jurassic Coast
Area Information
The coastline around the Isle of Purbeck forms part of the Jurassic Coast which is a 95 mile stretch of outstanding geology in between Dorset and East Devon and is a World Heritage Site. Well preserved dinosaurs and dinosaur footprints have been found along parts of the coast and West Dorset is a very good area for fossils. The beaches around Kimmeridge and Lulworth are very popular with fossil hunters and the safest way to find fossils is on the beaches at low tide.
